3 Laws of Technical Support

Or - What I have learned after close to 20 years doing event registration.

I have a confession to make...some days I just hate computers. There I said it. I was hired originally to manage our Pacific office and I saw my future in sales not operations. Before long I found myself on my hands and needs connecting computers in to something called a local area network.

So has a service to all who have been forced by circumstance to become viewed as a technician here are my 3 sure fire Technical Laws:

1. IF IT IS NOT PLUGGED IN IT WON"T WORK.

2. IF IT IS NOT BROKEN, DON'T FIX IT.

3. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BACKUPS--BUT YOU CAN HAVE TOO FEW

Law 1:

I would like to thank our President, Nick for teaching me the first law of CONEXSYS my very fist day on the job.  This rule which I refer to as rule 1--or the primary law of technical support--has never let me down and allowed me to appear as a technical expert to clients, friends and family.

I suppose now with wireless networks we don't really need to be always plugged in....but I do know IF IT IS NOT TURNED ON IT WON'T WORK,

Law 2:

Applies especially when Arsenic Hour approached (that short time period when 75 to 90% attendees arrive to pick up their name badges.) Do not do anything that can disrupt the flow of name badges.

Law 3: You should only need to break this law once. Do not follow it at your peril.
