In Maslow's hierarchy of needs, belonging comes right after our basic physiological and safety needs. It's the human desire to feel accepted, loved, and part of something-whether that's a family, a circle of friends, a workplace, or a community. Meeting this need is essential to our identity, well-being, and mental health. When it's missing, we experience loneliness, anxiety, and even depression.

At their core, meetings and events exist to bring people together-to exchange ideas, solve problems, make decisions, and build relationships and trust.

While conversations around inclusion continue to evolve, our need to belong-and the purpose of meetings-remains the same. And even though the term DEI can sometimes be polarizing, the principles behind it all come down to one simple truth: being good humans to other humans.

If you're part of the meetings industry and available on October 29th, I invite you to join us for Inclusive Impact: Designing Events with DEI at the Core, hosted by Meeting Professionals International's Greater New York Chapter (MPIGNY) at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, New York, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

I'm honored to be a panelist alongside my fellow MPIGNY members Janeen Saltman, President & Creative Director at Powered by Professionals, and Cheyenne Nelson, Director of Strategic Accounts at MGME. Together, we'll share insights and strategies to help you navigate these sensitive but vital topics in the future of meeting design.

And of course, we'll continue the conversation over drinks afterward. Hope to see you there!
