Aila Karpio, CMM, works in her day job as President of Spets Association Management Ltd. in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Aila is also the Honorary Vice-Consul of Finland in Vancouver.
She has been involved in the tourism and meetings industries for over 30 years both in Europe and Canada, and now her company is specializing in association management.
Aila is a former board member of the MPI British Columbia Chapter. She was the Newsletter Editor (when the VP Communication portfolio wasn't yet invented) and then served as VP Finance for two years. The 2007-2008 year saw her as President of the BC Chapter and the following year she was Immediate Past President. Aila won numerous awards while serving on the Chapter Board.
In addition to her Chapter Leadership roles, Aila has sat on the boards of several other not-for-profit organizations, including the Scandinavian Business Club of BC. Currently Aila is on the board of the Canadian Memorial United Church and Marina Housing Cooperative. Aila brings her personal experience to helping associations in board development, financial issues, marketing, member care, administration and other areas that volunteer boards can outsource.
Spets also offers consulting services to professional study (technical) groups coming to visit British Columbia, and plans meetings and events. Spets' expertise is in events with 50 to 500 attendees.
Spets is based on Aila's values the respect for all human beings and the environment being on top of the list. The Spets Team always makes sure that every person they deal with is treated with reverence and that all the programs they plan are environmentally friendly.
